Student Drop Off
-
For families doing drop offs/pickups, we encourage you to park in the parking lot. The designated parent parking area can accommodate several vehicles, which will allow us to get more cars and buses off the roadway during busy times. To access the designated parent drop off/pick up area, you will enter the parking lot via the middle lane. You will then continue to drive in the leftmost lane to the designated parent parking area. This route is marked in the visual with red arrows. Parents should only park in the EC area if they are dropping off/picking up both EC and K-4 students.
-
For morning drop-offs, please walk your student along the sidewalk to the crosswalk at 9 am. At this time, a staff member will help your student cross the crosswalk to the school. Parents must remain with their student until a staff member crosses them, and parents will only cross to the building if they are entering our building to volunteer or visit our main office.
-
For afternoon pick ups, you will meet your student at the crosswalk after a staff member has helped them cross the crosswalk from the school.
-
When leaving the parking lot, merge into the exit lanes marked with yellow arrows. Note that all vehicles must turn right onto 80th Street when exiting.
-
Parents still have the option of using the drop off/ pick up lane marked on the visual with blue arrows. However, if you need to exit your vehicle for any reason or if your student needs some extra time to get in or out of your vehicle, please park in the lot rather than using the drop off lane. Please do not allow students to exit vehicles until 9 am when a staff member is present.
Departure | Parent Pick Up | End of Day Dismissal
Departure
Students are to use their normal, end of day route of transportation, unless otherwise requested by a parent/guardian. Students need a blue note, signed by the office to exit the front door. Staff will monitor the doors and assist parents/students with pick-up. Changes to your students' end of day plans are appreciated before 2:00pm. Contact the main office at 763.274.6270 or email pves.attendance@isd728.org.
Early dismissals are discouraged. Students leaving a few minutes early often miss important last minute instructions and/or reminders. Early dismissals should occur only in rare circumstances. Please make every effort to schedule appointments outside of school hours.
If a student needs to be released early for an appointment, family trip, etc., parents/guardians are asked to notify the school in advance. The student should bring a note to the office in the morning to receive a blue note. The parent/guardian will need to meet their student in the office to sign them out. If someone other than the parent/guardian will be picking a student up, the office will need to be notified ahead of time. This can be written in the note for early release. If a student returns to school after his/her appointment, he/she should report back to the office and be signed in by his/her parents.
Student Pick Up Procedures
- Students will exit the building through Door 1.
- Students need a bag tag (daily front exit) or blue note (special circumstances), signed by the office or their classroom teacher to exit the front door. Staff will monitor the doors and assist parents/students with pick-up.
- Be aware of students and staff members who are in the crosswalk areas at all times.
- Do not drive through the crosswalk area when students/parents/staff are crossing.
- Drive vehicles to the farthest open slot around the circle to allow more parents to pick up their children.
- Pick up students within the designated area only.
- Parents should not exit the vehicle during parent pick up if they use the drop off lane.
- Extra staff will be available during parent pick up for supervision.
- Parents will not be allowed to enter the building.
- Parking Option for Pick Up Only: Park in the parking lot and meet your students at the sidewalk across from the crosswalks. Open to all parents. Required for students who take longer and/or if parents need to exit the vehicle to assist children.
- Put student and staff safety first when driving on or near school grounds.
In addition, we ask that parents use good judgement and abide by general traffic laws while on school grounds - this includes parking in Handicap spaces when not legally prohibited to do so, leaving a vehicle parked on sidewalks or outside of designated parking spots, leaving children in unattended vehicles, etc.
Walkers/Bikers
Students may ride their bikes to and from school. We advise that they wear a helmet and follow pedestrian laws. Students need a bag tag or blue note to exit the front doors.
For our student walkers/bikers traveling east on 80th street, we ask you to use the sidewalk along the north side of 80th street and continue along the sidewalk on the west side of the building. You will be assisted by school patrol to cross the driveway crosswalk near the EC wing of the school. New bike racks have been placed in this location for students who need to secure a bike. For our student walkers/bikers traveling west on 80th street, we ask that you use the sidewalk on the north side of 80th street. A school patrol person will assist you in crossing the bus entrance and then you will continue up the sidewalk on the east side of the building. These routes are marked in the visual with a red line. For student safety, It is important that students using either of these routes do so only when a school patrol person is present. Additionally, we ask that parents who walk/bike with their students not cross over to the school side of the crosswalks. Students should not arrive to cross to our school until 8:55 am when a crossing guard is present for supervision. Thank you for your cooperation. Contact me with any questions!
Bus
Students may not ride a bus other than their own. Contact Vision Transportation at 763-441-4420 with any questions or concerns. Bus assignments can be found in Parent Portal under Transportation.
EdVenture Club
EdVenture Club students are to report to the cafeteria immediately. All EdVenture Club registrants must be in attendance before buses are released. Students registered for EdVenture Club will be pulled from the bus unless their absence is reported.
After-School Activities
Students who stay after school for activities need written permission from a parent/guardian stating the name of the activity and pick-up time.
