APEX FUN RUN!
Our Apex leadership program and fundraiser starts on September 30th, 2025!
Apex offers an exceptional two-week interactive leadership program, complemented by a fitness-focused event fundraiser, which enables schools nationwide to raise funds in a healthy manner. During the fun-filled program, Apex encourages the development of leadership habits, good character, and physical fitness.
Every student at our school participates in the daily leadership and character lessons, receives daily lesson silicone wristbands, enjoys classroom & school-wide rewards, and takes part in the celebratory, high-energy fitness event, regardless of financial participation in the fundraiser.
We will need volunteers for our fun run for all grades on Friday, October 10! Please look for this request soon!
School Donations
If you have extra school supplies at home, we will take them! Send them with your student or drop them off in the main office during school hours.
Our donation link is always open. Click the link below to donate to student lunch accounts, classrooms, or general school funds. We appreciate your contribution and investment in our school.
Unity Day
Unity Day at Prairie View Elementary is on Wednesday, October 22. We encourage all students and staff members to wear orange on this day. October allows our school to unite against bullying and show that we are united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Hawk Pride
We teach/reteach, recognize, and celebrate Hawk Pride expectations, which are respectful, responsible, and ready. Students are acknowledged verbally and with Hawk Pride tickets when they are following expectations. This year, our staff is focusing on helping students understand the ‘why’ behind following expectations and being specific in our acknowledgments of students. When our students have filled our school-wide container with Hawk Pride tickets, they are recognized with an all-school celebration. In addition, individual students are recognized each Monday morning during our Hawk Pride ticket drawing. We draw ten names each week. When a student's name is selected, their name is announced over the PA system, and they choose from a menu of prizes.

E-Learning Days
E-Learning Days are intended to provide access to learning on days when there are school cancellations due to inclement weather. These days cannot replace the face-to-face time students have with their teachers, but it can provide continuous learning when school is canceled. E-Learning Days also eliminate the need for makeup days at the end of the school year, helping families plan summer activities. Read more…
Hard copies will be sent home with your student on October 20th.
Art to Remember
I am excited to start a new school year with your child and am looking forward to creating many new art projects together! I will be teaming up again with Art to Remember to raise additional funds for the art room. Art to Remember transfers children’s artwork onto wonderful keepsake items, such as mugs, necklaces, key chains, and more! Ordering information will go home with your child at the end of October. I hope this fundraiser gives you a unique way to collect, enjoy, and appreciate your child’s artwork. Not only do Art to Remember products make great gifts for friends and family members, but every purchase you make supports our school. I plan on making art class a fun experience for your child and am eager to see where their imaginations can take them!
Thanks,

Our PAC recently purchased a Hawk Mascot for our school using fundraising dollars! Students are currently voting for our Hawk’s name. Classes will take pictures with the mascot next week. When we have earned our next all-school celebration, students will receive their class picture and have the opportunity to decorate a frame. Our kindergarten and fourth-grade students will pair up with their buddy classes for this event.
Alice Letter/Drill
We will participate in our Alice drill next week. ISD 728 is committed to providing the safest possible environment for its students and staff. To maintain this environment, we consistently work with law enforcement to learn and implement best practices in school safety and security.
ISD 728 recently created a partnership with ALICE Training Institute. The acronym stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. ALICE prepares us with proactive, options-based strategies for an active shooter on campus situation while remaining age and ability-appropriate.
All ISD 728 teachers, staff, and administrators have been trained in the ALICE protocols. Students will review this information with their teachers and other school staff next week. During this time, students will receive an overview of the program and talk through a drill with a classroom teacher. Students can ask their teachers questions about the drill. They will be allowed access to any mental health services available on campus, including counselors, school psychologists, social workers, or other student support specialists as needed.
In advance of this review, we are asking parents to watch these video presentations that will be shared with our grade K-2 & 3-7 students:
After the ALICE training, I encourage you to speak with your student(s) and ask about the information they learn. You can find more information on ALICE, talking points, and school emergency information (including how to respond to a school emergency) by visiting the ISD 728 Prevention & Safety Department website.

Weekend Food Program- sign up today!
PVES is excited to partner with Every Meal, a non-profit organization that works with local schools to implement weekend food programs. Families at PVES can sign up to receive food that will be distributed on Fridays. Food is packaged in bags, and the bags offer a variety of items such as chicken, tuna, pasta, rice, mac and cheese, chili/soup, and various fruits and vegetables.
Please complete THIS FORM if you are interested in participating. Once completed, you will be enrolled in the weekend food program, with distribution beginning September 13th and continuing through the end of the school year. Please talk to your child once you have enrolled in the program so they know that food will be placed in their bags at the end of each week- this is done discreetly to protect your student's privacy. **If your student would prefer to pick up their bag of food from my office, please let me know, and I can coordinate with them**
This program is completely free, and your family's privacy is also protected.

Hawk Pride
At PVES, we take pride in teaching, reteaching, recognizing, and celebrating our Hawk Pride expectations: being respectful, responsible, and ready.
Students are regularly recognized for meeting these expectations with verbal praise and Hawk Pride tickets. These tickets contribute to our school-wide container, and when it’s filled, we celebrate as a community with an all-school celebration. We’re close to reaching our next all-school celebration, which will be extra recess time!
Additionally, individual students are recognized each week during our Monday morning Hawk Pride ticket drawing. Ten lucky students have their names announced over the PA system and get to choose a prize from our special prize menu.
Thank you for supporting Hawk Pride at home! Together, we’re creating a positive, respectful, and engaging learning environment for all students.

Bike Safety

Please ensure your students do not arrive at the crossing to our schools before 8:55 a.m., when our crossing guards arrive to supervise and cross them safely, and take time to go over these bike safety expectations with your students. Also, students cannot ride electronic scooters or bikes to school.
Art Recognition
Congratulations, Ira Avery & Hazel Benson! Two student pieces of art were selected from each school in the district. A Poster was printed and framed of each art image to hang in the District Office for the next year. After a year, these images are sent back to the school to be part of a permanent display in the school or community.

Is a Transportation Request Survey Needed for Your Student?
If your student falls under one of the criteria listed below, you MUST submit a transportation request through this online process by June 30, 2025. Once logged in the Campus Parent Portal, the survey is located under ‘Message Center’ and then ‘Surveys.’ One survey per student should be completed.
- Grade 11 or 12: A Student Transportation Request Survey in Campus Parent Portal is required for any 11th or 12th grade student that wishes to ride the bus. The request must be completed by June 30, 2025 to ensure it is ready for the first day of school.
- Open-Enrolled: Students who are open-enrolled into non-magnet programs, but attending an ISD 728 school, must complete a Student Transportation Request Survey in Campus Parent Portal to be assigned to bus routes. Bus stop locations are determined by space available on district buses, not necessarily by the distance to your home, and will be located within the school boundary of attendance, if available. Families will be required to transport the student to and from the bus stop location as not all locations will be within walking distance.
- Magnet Student: Students who live inside the ISD 728 District boundary and attend Rogers Elementary or Salk Middle School, must complete a Student Transportation Request Survey in Campus Parent Portal to be assigned to bus routes.
Students who live outside of the ISD 728 District boundary and within the approved Northwest Suburban Integration School Districts (NWSISD), will be assigned to busing based on information that was collected during the registration process. Please contact your school if your address changes or you have not requested busing for the school year. - Alternate Locations (i.e. Daycare, Second Household): Families will continue to be given the option to request an alternative stop location, such as a daycare or second household, providing it results in one consistent morning and afternoon bus assignment per student. Students cannot be assigned to multiple routes and changes during the school year require a new form.
Daycare locations must be within the district/school boundary of attendance and outside the walk zone. If your student is attending EdVenture Club and will not require transportation, please let us know so they can be removed from busing.
For second households, the address must meet eligibility guidelines and replaces the primary address. - Does NOT need bus transportation: A parent should complete the Student Transportation Request Survey in Campus Parent Portal to remove their student completely from transportation. To resume using District transportation in the future, a new Student Transportation Request Survey must be submitted to be added to the bus routes.
See isd728.org/transportation for details.
